Joining

Information for prospective members
We are currently open to new members joining the co-op, there are two levels of membership, full membership for those committed to living in the co-op, and associate membership for interested parties who don't want to commit but still want to be part of the project.

What we are looking for in new members
We are looking for people who are committed to making a housing co-op work and living in Manchester for the medium to long term future. The current members of the co-op are all feminist, vegan and queer but these are not essential joining requirements. The main thing is that we all get on well and want to live together. You don't need to be financially well off to join, investment by members is voluntary, the price of living in a co-op is similar to the price of renting any other property and it can be covered by housing benefit.

Full Membership
By becoming a full member you agree to live with the other co-op members from July 2012, whether or not we have bought a property by then. If we have not bought a property by this time we will rent a house together and begin living communally while we move forward with property hunting. Exceptions will be made if members have access requirements which can't be met in rented accommodation.

All full members are guaranteed a place wherever the co-op decides to live from July 2012 onwards. You will be invited to attend the co-op's weekly meetings and communal dinners, both of which take place on a Sunday afternoon.

You can become a full member by registering your interest to join, after a minimum of a month has passed (this can be longer at your request) the full members of the co-op will come to consensus on you joining.

Associate Membership
Associate members are not expected to live with the rest of the co-op so there is a lower level of commitment. Prospective members may wish to try associate membership first, to see if the co-op is right for them, before they register for full membership.
You will be invited to attend the co-op's weekly meetings and communal dinners, both of which take place on a Sunday afternoon. You can become an associate member by consensus of all current full and associate members.
